Chairman Teng delegation arrived in New York and then went to Raleigh, North Carolina and stayed at Raleigh Royal Sheraton Hotel, and received warmly by the State Government and Economic Development Department on January 17. North Carolina possesses IBM’s largest investment in equipments in the world, the nation's second largest financial center and the third largest biotechnology center.
Chairman Teng delegation held a "China-US Trade and Investment Environment Seminar and Project Signing Ceremony" aimed at further promoting bilateral trade and investment policies, enhancing business understanding, establishing exchange platform and expanding cooperation on January 18. After the seminar, the delegation arrived in Washington and stayed at Washington Hilton Hotel.
China-US Business Council was grandly held in Ronald Regan International Trade Center. Vice President Irene Enice- of United States-China Business Council and Vice President Tami Overby of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce began with a welcome speech respectively and Vice Chairman Yu Ping of CCPIT addressed a speech on January 19. At the seminar, Vice-Minister of MOC Wang Chao and Vice-Minister of U.S. Department of Commerce Sanchez made a speech on the theme of "Review and Outlook - Sino-US economic and trade cooperation in development". Subsequently, both sides held a signing ceremony and a special conference for cooperation projects.
Chairman Teng delegation visited Chicago, Illinois and Los Angeles, California and was warmly received by the Governor of the State of Delaware, deputy mayor of Los Angeles and other dignitaries from January 20 to 26.
During the stay at America, Chairman Teng delegation and all groups also visited American relevant government departments respectively and communicated on many problems that hindered the healthy development of Sino-US economic and trade relations (such as U.S. trade barriers, export controls, investment environment and visa, etc.), for example, exchanging with the chairman and members of Judiciary Committee of House of Representatives at U.S. Congress and the senators of Texas, having a discussion meeting with the senators and business sectors of Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, San Francisco and other places, etc. Through related activities, Chinese side expressed clearly to strengthen cooperation in the financial crisis and oppose all forms of trade protectionism; it also conveyed Chinese Government’s efforts in promoting the balanced development of bilateral trade and hoped the U.S. to conduct more meaningful work in this regard. The U.S. side said it would take a more positive attitude towards promoting the development of bilateral trade and investment cooperation to achieve a win-win situation.
